Thanks for agreeing to become part of a GRIT Squad.
What is the GRIT app?
GRIT (Getting Results in Transition) is a mobile app designed to help Service
members, National Guard members, Reservists, Veterans, their families, and Caregivers gain personal
insights into their emotional well-being.
It also provides resources to improve their situations, connect with friends and family, and serve as a
tool to build resiliency and overall well-being.
To provide tailored resources and support to each user, GRIT creates and updates a personal baseline
score using the app. This baseline provides the user with personalized insights and actions that can help
with changing life situations.
One of the actions that the app can take is reaching out to a user’s squad to alert them that the user may
need help or immediate support. If you receive a text from the GRIT app,
please reach out to your squad
member immediately.
The user’s privacy and confidentiality is our top priority. If the GRIT app contacts you,
please understand that we will share no information about the user’s activity within the
GRIT app and no personal data with the squad.
Many Service members, National Guard members, Reservists, Veterans, their families,
and Caregivers are field-testing the GRIT app. If you have received a GRIT squad
text – one of those users is looking for you to join their squad.
Why is the squad important?
Social connectedness is a critical component of emotional well-being. One of the most challenging aspects
of returning to civilian life is the social isolation a Service member, National Guard member, or Reservist
may feel once they return home. Social isolation can impact a person’s mental and physical health and bleed
over into other areas of their life, including their ability to find or maintain employment.
The squad is a way for the user to create a social network that can provide support and increase the
user’s sense of belongingness.
What should I do if am a squad member?
The thing a squad member can do is to reach out to a squad member if the app contacts you. In addition,
remain engaged with the user and reach out to them frequently.
Can I use or contact my squad member through the GRIT app?
The use of the GRIT app during the field test is limited to Service members, National Guard
members, Reservists, Veterans, their families, and Caregivers. If you fall into one of those
categories and want to register for the field test, download the GRIT app at the iOS or Google public
app store. For convenience, use your mobile phone to scan the QR code on this page.
GRIT app users can call or text a squad member from within the app, but squad members will need to contact
the user directly.
What are some resources that can help me support my squad member?
There are many organizations providing support and resources for the families and friends of Service members, National Guard members,
Reservists, Veterans, their families, and Caregivers. We recommend:
